Praying for an intention means bringing a specific request, need, or gratitude to God in prayer. This can be done privately, or with your community by inviting them to join you in prayer. In this article, we’ll share the steps on how you can pray for intentions in the app.
There are several ways to pray for an individual intention, by selecting an available intention in the Church Tab and Home Tab or by entering an intention from an individual prayer session before you pray.
How to create and pray for an intention
Option 1: Create a prayer request from the Home Tab
You can add a prayer request directly from the Home tab. Scroll until you find the Prayer Request carousel.
Here is what you can expect from the Prayer Requests carousel:
The carousel shows requests from your friends, and members of church or groups. , it will also include those requests, ordered with the newest first.
You can tap the Pray for All button to pray for every intention currently displayed.
You can view new, unread prayer intention followed by other intentions in order of newest to oldest.
You can add a prayer request, to invite others to pray for you or to dedicate a prayer to your private intention.
Follow these steps to create a prayer request from the Home tab:
Tap the Add Request button.
Enter your prayer request (limit: 240 characters).
Customize the background color of your prayer request card.
At the bottom right, choose where your request will be shared:
If it says Private, it will only be added as a personal request and appear in the Intentions carousel under the Me tab.
To share it with your friends or community, tap Private and update your sharing preferences.
When you’re ready, tap Done, then tap Post to share your prayer request.
Option 2: Create & pray for intentions before you start a prayer
Follow these steps to create a prayer intention or select others’ intentions to pray for, starting with an individual prayer session:
Select any prayer session (excluding music) from the Hallow app.
You should see 2 buttons: Play Session and Pray for an Intention. Select Pray for an Intention.
Enter your prayer intention (limit: 240 characters).
Customize the background color of your prayer request card.
At the bottom right, choose where your request will be shared:
If you want the prayer to be private, uncheck all groups.
When you’re ready, tap Done, then tap Post to share your prayer request.
You also have the option to scroll to the right and select the prayer intentions of others from your community to pray for those intentions at this time.
Select Pray for (#) Intention to pray for your intentions with Hallow. 🙏🏽
Option 3: Create & pray for intentions from the Church tab
The Church Tab allows you to view and pray for intentions shared with your Church, Groups, and Friends. You can choose to pray for a single intention, multiple intentions, or all intentions within a community. This feature helps you support others through prayer and stay connected with your faith community. To get started, open the Church Tab and navigate to your desired Church, Group, or Friends community.
To create a prayer intention from within the Church tab follow these steps:
Scroll down slightly and you’ll find the Prayer Request carousel, where you can also tap the Pray for All button to pray for every intention currently displayed
Enter your prayer request (limit: 240 characters)
If you’d like to change the background color, you can do so at this stage by clicking customize.
Select which groups you want to share your intention with by tapping the icon at the bottom of the card.
When you're ready, tap Done,then tap Post to share your prayer request.
To pray for other people’s intentions from within the Church Tab, follow these steps:
Scroll down to find the Prayer Request carousel, or manually browse the list of intentions.
Select an intention.
Tap Pray for to offer your prayer.
Or, Tap the Pray for All button to pray for all Intentions posted in your group
Select a prayer you with to dedicate to the prayer request(s).
In the Church tab, under your Church, Friends, or Groups, you’ll find Prayer Request cards as you scroll down. Use the hamburger menu in the upper-left corner to switch between groups. If someone has added an intention, you can react with a ❤️, send them a message by tapping the chat icon, or tap Pray for to lift up their request.
Option 4: Create a prayer intention from the Me tab
You can create an intention from the Me tab, where it will be shared with the communities you've joined in the app. Your intention will be visible to the communities you're a part of, allowing others to lift it up in prayer with you.
Here’s how to do it:
Go to the Me tab.
Scroll down to the Intentions section.
Tap the [➕] icon on the right side.
Type your intention in the text field provided.
Tap Post Intention to share it.
Note: If you prefer to keep your intention private, you can uncheck the community-sharing option before posting.
Option 5: Pray For Your Friend
You can lift up your friends in prayer even if they haven’t posted a prayer request. Sometimes you may feel a nudge from the Holy Spirit to pray for someone specifically.
Follow these steps to pray for someone in your Friends list:
Go to the Me tab.
Tap the Friends icon in the upper-right corner beside the Settings icon.
Select the friend you’d like to pray for.
Tap Pray for to offer your prayer.
Select a prayer you wish to pray for them
We will then notify them after you've completed your prayer.
How to pray for multiple intentions
Select the first intention found on the prayer requests carousel.
Tap the Pray for All button (beside the Prayer Requests title), or manually select the specific request you want to pray for
If you choose to pray for a select list of requests, you’ll be shown each card. You can continue to swipe to the next intention and select it.
Once you’ve selected all the intentions you want to pray for, tap Pray for (#) Intentions at the bottom.
❤️ You can react to the intentions shared in the Church Tab to show your support. To do so, simply tap the heart icon at the bottom right corner when viewing the intention.
How to change the privacy of your prayer intentions
Before you post your intention, you can make it private or choose which groups you share it with. The app will remember your most recent preferences, so make sure to check your current sharing status before tapping Post Intention.
To manage who you share your prayer intentions with, or to keep them private, follow these steps:
Once you've finished typing your intention, type Done.
At the bottom-left, you'll find a few sharing options indicating All groups, (#) groups, or Private. Select your preferences by checking and unchecking who to share with.
If you want to make the prayer intention private, uncheck all the groups. If it's set to Private, your intention will only be added to your journal.
If you choose All groups or (#) groups, your intention will be shared.
Once you've made your selection, click Done.
It should now show as either Private or the group/community you selected.
Tap Post Intention.
How to view all of the intentions you've shared
To view all of the intentions you shared with your group and the ones you kept private, follow these steps:
Tap the Me tab, found at the bottom right corner.
Scroll down to the Intentions section.
Then tap Intentions
There is no option to edit an intention. You can delete the one you created and create a new one.
