How to cast Hallow video to a smart TV
Below are instructions for how to cast from your mobile device to a smart TV depending on whether you have an iOS device or an Android device. But first, a few general troubleshooting tips!
Troubleshooting video casting issues:
If your TV isn’t appearing as a casting option, try the steps below. Keep in mind that some instructions may vary depending on your phone or TV model, so check your device’s support site if needed. You can also visit our web app to watch the videos on your computer.
Make sure you have a smart TV or casting device — In order to view video from your mobile device on a TV, you need a “smart” TV or streaming device with this capability. If your TV has a menu or home screen with apps like Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, Prime Video, etc... and the ability to connect to Wi-Fi, it’s a smart TV. If not, you can still cast or stream using devices like Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire Stick, or Roku. These devices generally plug into the HDMI port and give your TV smart functionality.
Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network — Your phone and TV must be on the same Wi-Fi network to cast. Double-check both connections if you’re not seeing your TV as an option.
Turn on Bluetooth and Location Services — Some casting devices (like Google Cast) require Bluetooth and Location Services to be turned on for your phone to discover your TV.
Restart both devices — Turn your TV off and back on or restart your phone.
How to cast Hallow to your TV from an iOS device:
Screen mirroring
You can use your Apple TV or smart TV, allowing you to wirelessly mirror your device’s screen. If AirPlay is available, you’ll likely be able to use it to mirror your screen to the TV. Please ensure that your smart TV supports this feature. For this to work, your iOS device and smart TV need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Follow the steps below to mirror from an iOS device:
On your iOS device, swipe down from the upper-right corner to open Control Center.
Tap the Screen Mirroring icon, which is typically represented by two overlapping rectangular boxes.
If you don’t see the Screen Mirroring icon in Control Center, follow these steps to add it:
For iOS 16 and later: Open Settings > Control Center.
For iOS 11 and up: Open Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls.
Select your smart TV from the list that appears. If a passcode is shown on your TV (usually on the first connection), enter the code on your iOS device to complete the setup.
Open the Hallow app and start the session.
If the video is displaying in portrait mode, rotate your device to switch to landscape mode. If it doesn’t change, make sure to disable the portrait orientation lock by tapping the lock icon with a curved arrow (usually found in the Control Center).
To switch back to your iOS device, open Control Center, tap the Screen Mirroring icon, and select Stop Mirroring.
How to cast Hallow to your TV from an Android device:
For this to work, make sure your device is up to date. Your Android device and TV (or streaming device like Roku or Chromecast) must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Starting from the Hallow App
Select a piece of video content you wish to play from the Hallow App.
Tap Play Session.
Tap the 3 dots next to the session title (…)
Choose the Cast option. It should be underneath “Share.”
Starting from your phone’s Quick Settings panel
Swipe down from the top of your Android device to open the Quick Settings panel.
Tap the Cast option (or Smart View if you're using a Samsung device).
Select your Chromecast or TV from the list of available devices.
The option to Cast one app should work, so click Next.
Select the Hallow App.
Once connected, your Android device’s screen will appear on the TV, and you can play Hallow content.
How to use an adapter to connect an iOS or Android device to a TV:
For devices with a Lightning port (most iPhones and older iPads), use a Lightning to HDMI adapter (also known as a Lightning Digital AV Adapter). This will allow you to connect your device to your TV via an HDMI cable.
Plug the adapter into your iOS or Android device and connect an HDMI cable from the adapter to your TV.
For iOS: Use a Lightning to HDMI adapter (for iPhones or older iPads) or a USB-C to HDMI adapter (for newer iPads).
For Android: Use a USB-C to HDMI adapter (for most modern Android devices with a USB-C port).
Use your TV remote to switch to the HDMI input where your device is connected.
Once the adapter is connected and the correct input is selected on your TV, your device’s screen (either iOS or Android) should automatically appear on the TV.
Open the Hallow app and start mirroring
