How do I manage and connect with friends in the community tab?

I want to add and remove friends in the Community Tab!

This article will guide you through the steps to invite friends and manage your connections within the Community Tab. You'll learn how to add new friends, accept friend requests, remove friends, and view your friends' connections.

How to Invite Friends

  1. Tap the Community tab.

  2. In the upper-left corner of the Community tab, tap the title bar. This will display either Friends or the name of your Church or Group.

  3. Tap Friends then the People icon.

  4. Tap Add and follow these options to connect with others:

    • Suggested Friends - Hallow will suggest friends based on your Church or Group. Scroll down for more options:

      • Sync Your Contacts:

        1. Tap Sync Your Contacts.

        2. In your device settings, toggle Contacts to allow syncing.

        3. Return to the app to see your synced contacts.

      • Invite Friends from Your Synced Contacts:

        1. A list of suggested friends will appear.

        2. Tap Invite next to their username to send them an invitation via text. Their status will be updated to Invited.

        3. To resend the invitation, tap Invited again.

      • Send a Friend Request:

        1. If you see the option Add next to a user, tap it to send a friend request directly.

        2. The user will be notified, and their status will update to Requested.

        3. To redo this action, tap Requested.

Note: If a friend is not on Hallow nor in your synced Contact list, you will not be able to invite them to your group. Please check the next question below if you want to add Friends not showing in suggestions and contacts.


How to Add Friends Not Showing in Suggestions and Contacts

If you want to add friends who are not yet on Hallow and do not appear in your Suggestions or Synced Contacts, follow these steps:

  1. Tap the Community tab.

  2. In the upper-left corner of the Community tab, tap the title bar. This will display either Friends or the name of your Church or Group.

  3. Tap Friends then the People icon.

  4. Tap the Share icon located in the upper-right corner of your screen.

  5. A unique link will be generated: “Add me on Hallow!”(Your unique link will be included automatically with the message.)

  6. Choose your preferred channel to share the link (e.g., text, email, or social media).


How to Accept Friend Requests

There are two ways you can receive notifications to confirm a friend request:

  1. App Notification:

    • You’ll receive a notification when someone adds you.

      1. Tap the Community tab.

      2. Tap the People icon.

      3. Go to Requests.

      4. Tap Accept.

  2. Message Notification:

    • You’ll receive an SMS or a message with a link. Click the link, which will either prompt you to download the app or open it directly.

      1. Tap the Community tab.

      2. Tap the People icon.

      3. Go to Requests.

      4. Tap Accept.


How to Remove a Friend

  1. Tap the People icon.

  2. Go to Friends.

  3. Tap Friends next to the name of the user.

  4. Tap the three-button icon on the upper-right corner.

  5. Tap Remove Friend.


How to View the Friends of Your Added Friend

  1. Tap the People icon.

  2. Go to Friends.

  3. Tap the name of the friend.

  4. Tap Friends next to the Chat icon.

You will also have the ability to add friends of your added friends.


Can I mute or block someone in the Community Tab?

Yes, you can mute or block someone. You can mute a person by visiting their profile, but only if you're friends with them. If you're not friends, you have the option to block them. Here's how:

  1. In the Community Tab, tap Members

  2. Find the person you want to mute or block.

  3. Tap the three-dot icon in the upper right corner.

  4. Tap Mute or Block.

If the person posted an intention, you can also mute or block them from there. Here’s how:

  1. Tap the profile photo of the person who posted the intention.

  2. You can find the intention in the intention carousel at the top or as a card by scrolling down.

  3. Tap the three-dot icon in the upper right corner.

  4. Tap Mute or Block.
