You can roster students in bulk right from the Hallow Admin Dashboard by uploading a CSV file. This lets you set up Kids Profiles or Standard Accounts for your students, choose how they'll log in, and get them connected to Hallow in just a few steps.
Rostering Students via CSV Import
Click on Import to start the bulk rostering process.
Click Download CSV Template. You'll then be prompted to select:
Account Type for your students:
Kids Profile — limits the library and features to what's appropriate for kids.
Standard — gives students access to the full Hallow library.
Login Method:
Email — recommended whenever your students have an email address available.
Username — Hallow will generate a username and password for each student. This method should only be used if email is NOT an option.
The fields in your downloaded template will depend on the Account Type and Login Method you selected. For example, a Kids Profile with an email login will include fields for the student's first name, last name, email, and an optional parent/guardian email.
Fill out the downloaded CSV with your student data, then click Import again, select Import students, and upload your completed file.
Review the preview screen, which shows each student's name, login details, and parent email (if provided). Click Import to add them to your roster.
Note: Students logging into accounts created by your school will see an option for a dedicated student login method (the option to select "I'm a student").
Converting Existing Students to a Kids Profile
Already have students rostered with Standard Accounts? You can switch them to Kids Profiles one at a time or in bulk from the Roster tab.
Convert one student
In the Roster tab, find the student and select the three dots in the right-hand column to Edit.
Change the Account Type field from Standard to Kid.
Optional: add a parent/guardian email address.
Select Save Changes.
Convert multiple students at once
In the Roster tab, check the box next to each student you'd like to convert.
Select Change Account Type from the toolbar that appears.
Choose Kids from the dropdown, then select Save Changes.
Note: Parent/guardian email addresses can't be added during bulk conversion. If you'd like parents to be able to claim these accounts, use the CSV re-import method above instead — upload matching student emails so it updates the existing accounts rather than creating duplicates.
Note: Switching a student to a Kids Profile restricts them to the Kids Library going forward — any saved or favorited content outside that library becomes inaccessible from the account.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a Kids Profile and a Standard Account?
A Kids Profile only has access to the Kids Library, while a Standard Account has access to the full Hallow library.
Note: In both cases, kids profiles can't create other kids profiles, and students with a standard account can't create kids profiles (though teachers and admins created by schools still can).
Can I roster a mix of Kids Profiles and Standard Accounts in the same class?
Yes — but keep in mind that if a class contains even one student on a Kids Profile, only Kids Library prayers and content will show up when you're creating an assignment for that class.
Note: if you convert a student to a Kids Profile after an assignment already exists, they won't see that assignment.
Do students need an email address to be rostered?
No — you can set students up with a username and password instead, or with a parent/guardian email so a parent can link the profile to their account. We recommend using the student email as the priority method for rostering if available.
Is grade level required?
No — it is optional. You can add it to individual students or in bulk via CSV, and it doesn't require re-rostering students who are already on your roster. Once added, you can filter your classrooms by grade level.
Once a student is rostered, where do they see their assignments?
Rostering gets a student's account set up, but assignments themselves are created and managed at the class level. See How to manage classes from the Hallow Admin Dashboard (For Schools) for how students find assignments in the app, and how teachers create and track them.
