Hallow app automatically plays when connected to Bluetooth or my car (Android)

Facing auto-play issues even after turning it off? This article explains how to disable Bluetooth auto-play on Android and what to try if it still happens.

When Hallow starts playing automatically after connecting to Bluetooth (Android)

If you’re using the Hallow app on Android, you may notice that Hallow starts playing automatically when you connect to Bluetooth (for example, when you start your car or connect to a speaker).

In most cases, you can stop this by enabling an in-app setting called Ignore Bluetooth.

Step 1: Update the Hallow app (Android)

The Ignore Bluetooth setting requires a recent version of the app. Before changing settings, make sure your Hallow app is up to date.

How to update the Hallow app from the Google Play Store

  1. Open the Google Play Store

  2. Tap your profile icon (top right)

  3. Tap Manage apps & device

  4. Under Updates available, find Hallow

  5. Tap Update (if available)

The first step is to go to the Google Play Store, search for the Hallow app, and check if there's an update for Hallow. Below are further step-by-step instructions

Step 2: Turn off Bluetooth auto-play in Hallow (Android)

How to turn off auto-play when connecting to Bluetooth

  1. Open the Hallow app

  2. Tap the Me tab (bottom right)

  3. Tap the Settings icon (top right)

  4. Select General

  5. Tap Player Settings

  6. Toggle Ignore Bluetooth ON

Once Ignore Bluetooth is enabled, Hallow should no longer start playing automatically when your device connects to Bluetooth.

If Hallow still auto-plays after enabling “Ignore Bluetooth”

On some Android devices, if Hallow is open or running in the background, Android may still send a media playback request when a Bluetooth connection is detected. In these cases, Android may bypass the usual controls that allow the app to ignore Bluetooth requests.

Workaround if auto-play continues

If Hallow still starts playing automatically, try this workaround:

  1. Fully close the Hallow app before getting into your car

  2. Make sure the app is not running in the background (swipe it away from your recent apps list)

  3. Then connect to Bluetooth or start your vehicle

This should prevent Hallow from starting playback automatically.

Note: This behavior only affects some Android devices.
